Supervisors in Higher Ed don't get the support and training they need to be effective in their roles.
That means every day you're wasting time and energy trying to juggle everything on your plate.
It probably also means you're carrying around a ton of stress and self-doubt.
We've been supervisors in Higher Ed for over 35 years. We know the joys it can bring, but we've also had our share of struggles. One of the most frustrating parts, is that no one ever told us how to supervise other human beings, much less how to balance that role with getting our own work done.
Being a people-person isn't enough. You need to understand your role as a supervisor and develop the right skills to lead you and your team to success. Most of us are just going around asking other folks - who also never got trained BTW - what we should do. That doesn't work. It just wastes your time and energy and causes more stress.
We talk to supervisors working in Higher Ed every day. So many of you tell us the same thing, "I'm not getting the support I need to be successful." And even more alarming, "I can't keep going like this."
INTRODUCING
What you want — to become a more effective supervisor and show up authentically in your leadership role — seems too far out of reach sometimes.
But change is possible! And you’ve already taken the first step—realizing that you need the right training and support to become a truly empowered, authentic leader.
Imagine what it would be like to…
At Strengths University, we get it. We know the challenges, the frustrations, and the joys of leading a team. We want to help you manage the stress and chaos, so you can better lead your team, support your students, and have more balance in your life.
We took everything we’ve learned in 35+ years of experience with supervising in higher education—and we packaged it all into one of the most transformative leadership programs our industry has ever seen.
We've combined asynchronous learning with group and individual coaching, so you can maximize what you're learning and, even more importantly, implement what you've learned.
Our proprietary program will give you the skills and knowledge you need to be a more effective supervisor. You get lifetime access to the modules, so you can go back and review them as needed.
Every week, the cohort will meet to discuss insights, answer questions, and discuss ways to integrate what you've learned. We'll also record these calls in case something comes up and you have to miss!
You're bound to have personal questions and concerns, so you also get one 30-minute individual coaching call. You can use it to get personalized feedback or work through specific issues.

WEEK ONE
Did you know energy is your most valuable resource? Yet, we often waste our energy working on things that aren't productive - or in ways that are productive. That leaves you feeling exhausted at work and at home. In this first week, we'll talk about how to better protect your energy, so you can use it for the things that are most important to you.
WEEK TWO
Your talents impact how you interact with the world. When you use your talents productively, they can drive you and your team to new levels of success. But what most people don't know is your talents can just as easily show up as weaknesses. You'll learn how to better manage your talents, so your more effective and productive.
WEEK THREE
Supervisors experience more stress than the folks they supervise. Left unchecked, it will negatively impact how you show up as a supervisor. Self-care isn't just a buzz word, it's crucial for your success and wellbeing. You'll learn the real impact of stress and how to develop a daily self-care practice that will allow you to be more effective.
WEEK FOUR
The greatest leaders aren't good at everything. They focus their energy on their strengths and surround themselves with folks who excel in other areas. You'll discover your own authentic leadership style, one that stems from your unique talents. Once you know who you are as a leader, you can better manage your energy and prioritize your time.
WEEK FIVE
Employees want a coach. Developing a system to consistently coach your team is one of the most effective things you can do as a supervisor. Coaching improves team performance and productivity. You'll learn how to coach your team, so you can help them focus their energy on their talents and give them opportunities for development.
WEEK SIX
One of the most challenging parts of a supervisor's job is managing your team's performance. Unfortunately, managing performance can be stressful when you don't have an effective system. You'll learn how to set clear expectations and hold folks accountable, whether it's celebrating successes or dealing with failure.
WEEK SEVEN
One of the things we hear from everyone is "there's been a lot of change here." Change is inevitable, and often stressful. Throughout the Institute, you'll discover ways you and your team can improve. This week, you'll learn to roll out those changes in a way that minimizes stress to you and your team and increases your chance of success.
WEEK EIGHT
The last week of the Institute is focused on action. You'll review what you've learned in the first seven weeks, then develop your path forward, with consideration to the specific needs of your institution. That way when the Institute is finished, you can move forward, focusing on exactly what you need to do to get the results you want.
We founded Strengths University in 2017 to support supervisors in Higher Ed. Together we have over 35 years of experience supervising in Higher Ed. We know how rewarding it can be, but we were frustrated that while so much of a team's success depends on the supervisor, folks rarely received the training they needed to be successful. We're here to give supervisors in Higher Ed the training and support they need to become more effective, empowered, and less stressed.
We use both a strengths-based and a wholistic approach in our coaching and training. We became Gallup Certified Strengths Coaches in 2016, and use the CliftonStrengths framework to help you adopt what you're learning in a way that will work with your unique talents. We also take a wholistic approach because how you show up in the world, impacts how you show up in your supervisor role.

"I have the opportunity to connect people with leadership training as part of my work at the college and have experience with many types of high quality and effective leadership training programs. Strengths University is by far the most life-changing training I have encountered. Anne and Alicia provide the right balance and experience to provide effective leadership training using the Gallup Strengths as a framework. This is worth the investment for leaders of any organization."
Executive Director - Learning Force
"The opportunity to have my entire leadership team participate in the same experience has been invaluable. It has given the team a shared language around leadership and has allowed them to acknowledge their struggles and successes. Through the program we created a safe space through which to navigate our challenges and have grown together as a team. It was well worth the investment of time and money to see such a dramatic impact on my leadership team's development as individuals."
Vice President, Enrollment Management and Student Success
"I appreciated that Anne and Alicia really listened to me and were able to cut right to the issue, keeping me focused on myself and what I could do to improve and know myself better. My "aha" moment came during a 1:1 with Anne when I realized that I really was the master of my own destiny - I could use my Strengths to do the things I wanted and needed and didn't need others to do it for me. This work is perfect for anyone who works with other people - professionals, students, anyone!"
